Arriving at middle school, your child is in the process of some deep cognitive development, and has already established a solid foundation of ethics and moral. At Escola Internacional de Alphaville, we understand that Middle School is the optimum moment in a child’s life to really broaden their perspective of the world, always keeping in mind our principles of an education based on care and affection.
Preparation for High School begins its journey at the start of Middle School, a precious moment in terms of making life choices. It is essential that students at this stage of their academic trajectory are exposed to new ideas and concepts. Our term for middle school is TEENS and, here, we get students thinking about big concepts in Global Studies from Teens 6 (T6) and Entrepreneurship and Life Projects in Teens 9 (T9). This enables students to not only think about the world, but it also promotes deep reflection about how to transform the world into a better place for all. Students are encouraged to plan, create and work on innovative projects that further develop collective skills and knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and mathematics (STEAM). Students also have the opportunity to prepare for and sit renowned English and Spanish language proficiency examinations leading to a certificate which is an entry requisite for universities around the world.
Our social ethics education programme, ‘Convivência Ética’, is one of the main pillars sustaining our beliefs at Escola Internacional de Alphaville. The construction of an ethical personality involves much more than simply refining socioemotional skills. It is in this sense that we give incentive to the development in our students of moral skills and competencies, that serve to guide the choices they make and will make in the future. Convivência Ética, aside from being an explicit feature on our curriculum, acts as the main programme in the prevention of bullying.
Making good choices in life depends upon the moral attributes and competencies constructed in a process that involves teaching and learning of the skills and language for positive relationships. Self-knowledge and respect are extensively developed in this programme with teens students, for we understand that the development of morality at this phase in life is essential to the formation of honest citizens committed to bettering themselves and the world.
The Convivência Ética programme extends to all year levels, from PreK - 12, at Escola Internacional de Alphaville. This curricular programme for children and teenagers consists of classes that involve an array of strategies to develop positive behaviours, skills and attitudes that are based on respect, moral and ethics. Assemblies and activities stemming from solid theory by leading researchers in the field of psychology and applied ethics are signpost of our commitment to the importance we place in developing solid values. Through rich discussions pertaining to issues our students encounter in their lives, we foster experiences that serve to develop conflict resolution skills, solve ethical dilemmas, and resolve matters between family and peers. All discussions are mediated by our Convivência Ética tutors, teachers who have undergone training and are prepared with the necessary skills to ensure positive outcomes.
Since 2010, Escola Internacional de Alphaville has organised study abroad programmes that offer a variety of international experiences for our students. Our partnership with Leysin American School in Switzerland, for example, provides students with the opportunity to participate in a summer camp programme, where students can choose from a wide range of cultural activities and sports.
Each year, we also promote a study abroad programme at the University of Oxford, England. Students who participate on this trip experience courses geared towards professions in areas such as Economy, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture.
Escola Internacional de Alphaville also organises visits to some of the leading universities in the USA, a programme which we have dubbed as the University Tours.
