CHILD EDUCATION – DAILY ACTIVITIES


ORAL AND WRITTEN

Appropriate to their age level, children are stimulated to leaf through books right from the very first day at Escola Internacional. Plastic books for little kids at bath time, cloth books in the kids´ classrooms, printed books with engravings of stories told them at Story Time by their teachers and educators.

This way, when the time for learning to read and write comes around the children are already familiar with, sensitive to and ready to fill their lives with the pleasure and magic experienced in the universe of books.

Learning how to read and write occurs in a significant way at the Escola Internacional. The children learn by building each phase of their knowledge according to each ones´ interest, in a pleasant, fun filled environment.

Playing with words and phrases, making up rhymes, children use the language in a creative and democratic way, expressing their ideas, emotions and sentiment with their pares and/or in groups, always under the competent and affectionate  mediation of their teachers.

This way, the child learns to read and write comprehending various styles of writing, “feeding” their imagination and developing linguistic and expressive abilities which will aid  them in the process of establishing enjoyable reading and writing experiences.

By the end of the Child Education the students are able to read, understand and write complete sentences with ease.



MUSIC AND ART

Right from the beginning, Kids are introduced to different materials according to their age group.

First, they explore colors, forms, textures, brushes, argil, molding clay, bread dough, finger painting.

Later, they begin to associate meanings to their creations.

At this phase they are encouraged to observe works, painting techniques, well known designers and sculptors, be they in the form of trips to exhibitions and museums, or examining books in the library.

After observing, the students begin their own collective and individual art expressions.

Student's art work is exhibited with the objective that they feel they are capable and deserve exhibition, strengthening their self confidence.

Music is beneficial to the development of equilibrium in the child's personality.  Stimulating movement leads to developing movement intelligence; rhythm, coordination and also the disposition for social interaction with classmates and teachers.

In a variety of situations the children participate in folk music, both national and international, popular music and songs in English. Like Villa-Lobos said "Music is the road to all the arts".
