STUDYING STRATEGIES

The Studying Strategies classes are part of the homework and of the guided studies - they are activities that stimulate the organization of studies and the student's autonomy besides allowing the teacher to check comprehension as well as memorization of contents.


It is, therefore, an evaluating tool both for  learning and teaching , that is, it brings evidence about  what the students already know how to do by themselves and what still requeries the teachers' mediation (Vygotsky).

Thus the teacher can identify the different ways the students learn and build their knowledge and at the same time can verify if the teaching-learning process has taken place effectively.


COOKING CLASS

At the Escola Internacional's experimental kitchen the Junior students have the opportunity to cook.

The cooking classes are monthy activities that help the students to develop organization, cooperation and autonomy in a pleasant atmosphere.

English is spoken during such classes and the content is always contextualized and meaninful to the students.


MUSIC

Music in Elementary School helps the students to absorb  their cultur and leads to the understanding of the rythm  and melody mechanisms. It also stimulates the development of thinking and promotes social integration among teachers and students.







INFORMATICS

The Informatics classes are planned with the help of the classroom teacher and focus in the learning of both informatics and the curricular contents of each grade.

They follow a weekly program developed by the classroom teacher and the Informatics coordinator.

In 2006 all the school computers were replaced in order to provide the students and the teachers with more efficiency.



THEATER

The theater classes lead to comprehension of the dramma and ludic language used on stage.

Besides that, it stimulates the development of the cognitive abilities (attention, concentration and memory), both the emotional and psycho-social ones (self-steem, self-confidence, social integration and social responsability).




SWIMMING

The swimming classes at the Escola Internacional has the objective of  stimulating the development of healthy  habits and a better quality of life in a world of sedentary citizens.







PROJECTS

The interdisciplinary projects at the Escola Internacional make the teaching process more meaninful,critical, creative and long-lasting.

The proposed theme is the guideline of the whole work  and not only an isolated item.

Therefore, the covered contents are tools for the students to build their knowledge gradually and progressively, following important steps such as planning, implementing and evaluating the projects.
